Just got a new Zoo Med 12" x 12" x 18" Frog Terrarium at Petsmart. It was normally $99 but was on sale for $75 so I picked it up. I've always wanted a frog or gecko terrarium but never started one. So having kept snakes and bearded dragons I want to possibly do my first frog Terrarium. Any input from you more experienced frog keepers would be appreciated. What would be the best kind of frog/frogs to start with? Help with there care and needs is also appreciated. Thanks for helping a newbie.
As a general rule of thumb a frog should be offered no less than 10G of space to live in (some frogs such as pacman frogs don't fall under this rule). a 12x12x18 tank is roughly 11 gallons. Depending on the type of frog you are interested in and how you plan to setup the vivarium you will most likely loose at least 5 inches in height and 1 to 2 inches of depth. effectively turning the tank into a 12x11x13 tank of usable space which equals roughly 7 gallons of usable space.
With all that out of the way it is my personal opinion and choice to not house frogs in a tank this size, unless it was going to be on a strictly short term situation. Such as a quarantine tank/hospital tank. You can get your hands on a 18x18x24 tank from exo terra for around $110 and can easily house a pair of dart frogs or tree frogs in it.

Welcome to the forum!
there is a bigger version of that tank at petsmart on sale too, 18x18x24, I would switch these tanks and make a pretty tank!
what frog are you thinking to have?
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
I would exchange it also, the 18x18x24 is only $109 at petsmart right now, so not a huge difference but definitely more than worth the extra space

Why would Zoo Med make this aquarium and on the front of it put "Frog Kit" on it. I'm a little disturbed by this. However if I take it back i will just get my money back. I saw it as a good deal took a shot. Oh well!
And as far as a tarantula goes, just not my thing.
Yeah, unfortunately, most major pet stores don't have the animal's best interest, and care more about a profit. Just search up pet store abuse on youtube, and you'll see some pretty shocking stuff. That is why forums such as this one are made to try to actually provide what is best for the animal
