Differences in Indonesian and Australian WTF?

I'm curious. Are there any differences in these two WTFs besides color? I mean shape and behavior differences. For one thing I noticed in a you-tube video the male Indonesians had yellow patches on top of their thighs and I wondered if Australians did as well. EDIT: Never mind. I just noticed the other threads that address this. But if anyone has noticed differences since those threads were posted feel free to reply.

Australians that you find in the USA have likely been crossed with an Indo at some point.

Good to know. I'd like an Australian (better chance of being captive maybe?) But I wouldn't want an inbred frog.

It's not considered inbreeding unless you breed the genetics back to each other.

Most white's sold her are Indonesian white's. Exporting from Australia is, let's say, close to impossible. They are very protective of their wildlife there.

Also, there are very few captive bred white's to be found on the market. Most people don't want to go through the effort and compete with the cheap pricing of wild caught specimens.

Bill, CB whites are actually pretty common. Lots of people vworking with the Blue phased Aussies and with all the morphs comming out, more people are likely to work with them. Every blue whites has assie blood which means it's CB.

Now I do agree with your statment when it comes to Indonesians. Rarely see CB other than Sandfire and LLL who probably stocked up from SandFire.

According to Sandfire they work with Indos, Aussies and hybrids between the two. From what I've gleaned Aussies are plumper, more typical "Dumpy" and come in the Aussie blue-green; the Indos are not as cubby (a bit more svelt) and they come in brighter greens without the bluish tinge. Far as I know my Shirley is an Aussie while Honey-Lime might be an Indo/Aussie hybrid. Snowflakes are Aussies, I'm not sure about the Honeys and Phantoms but the pics of the adults on their site sure appear Aussie... so pudgy!

The honeys are indos. Don't know about the phantom. All assies in captivity have been crossed with an indo at some point.

I find it funny how defensive the lady at Petco got when I asked if their WTFs were Aussies or Indos and she sort of bugged out her eyes and said with a huffy tone, "ALL our frogs are Australian. They were sold to us as Aussies so we sell them as Aussies. That's all I know." Um, okaaaaaay.... lol.

I would actually think that the hybridizing, if the right breeding practices are being used, would produce hybrid vigor and make for healthier stronger frogs? Works that way with mammals anyway.

I don't know if there is any scientific evidence that supports the claim that hybridization makes stronger and healthier animals in both herps and mammals. I have heard of animals not being able to make it out o the eggs, not being able to reproduce, or even having birth defects. Keep in mind that mind that both indos and Aussies are the same exact species so it's not technically hybridization but a cross in locality. Equivalent to people of different race breeding.

True... I do know that when two different breeds of goats are crossed together (i.e. Nigerian Dwarf x Angora) that, even though they are the same species, they call them hybrids. "Hybrid vigor" does seem to be true of goats at any rate so was going from that, lol. Location aside it does raise an interesting point that the Aussies and the Indos seem to have a different look about them, however.

Hmmm... I just read this thread http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...ndonesian.html and it's saying the opposite of what I'd come to believe in the differences in that the Indo is actually "dumpier" than the Aussie, even though Aussies are known as Dumpy blue tree frogs?? Ok, now I am really confused... lol. Oh well, will just go with what I was told that Aussies are bluish-green and Indos are brighter green (unless Honeys) and that both can turn brown... if the Indos and Aussies are crossed anyway then who knows what body type will show up, lol
