Default Frogs and toads for beginners?

Hey! everyone! I'm a bit of a amphibian newbie, but I'd really like to get a frog or toad in the near future, and I need some advice. I really want a cane toad, but from what I've read on here, and what folks have told me in response to the thread I made earlier, I can't help but feel like I should have a little more experience before I get a cane. What kind of frogs or toads should I get to start off? I live in NE Kansas, so if anyone's also in the area or familiar with that area, do you know if there are any good beginner amphibians that live in the area that I could catch? Any tips or advice I should know before I get an amphibian? (I'll also probably check the blogs out later as well.)

Thanks ahead of time for the advice guys!

    Hi.
honestly you better off with captive bred. You can get anyone in any price range, captive bred established baby will save you more headache then you know. It will save you money too. It may seem you are getting a frog for free, because you are catching it, it is gonna be way more expensive for you to treat it for parasites that all WC frogs carry, you will need to get it tested for chytrid, and possibly to get it die on you due to the stress. Not every wc frog will adapt to live in captivity. I'm considering WC frogs to be for experience keepers only and only when there is no other choice.

Now captive bred, there are so many options, colours, sizes, you can look what space you have, what budget and go from there.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Default Frogs and toads for beginners?

    What Lija said.

Great beginner species include but are not limited to
    -Fire Bellied toads
    -White's Tree Frogs
    -Grey Tree Frogs
    -Green Tree Frogs
    -Pacman Frogs
    -Toads of many kinds

All of these frog species i have seen for sale.

My recommendation: dont go to a pet store. Either go to an expo near you to view the frogs before purchase, or buy online.

There are some shifty places on line though *coughs* backwater reptiles *coughs again*. The four most reputable places online are
    -Josh's frogs
    -Mike's phat frogs
    -LLL reptile
    -rainforest junkies.

    Good luck !

Aphonopelma hentzi 0.0.1 (Texas Brown Tarantula)

For natives, I suggest the american toad, bullfrog, and the southern leopard frog. For store bought, I suggest pacmans, and fire belly toads.

Ooh, that is a really good point, I don't want a sick frog, and I definitely wouldn't want it to stress out and die :S
    Thanks for the advice Lija!

I would recomend starting with bufo americanus, or american toad. They are easy, and fun.
