So at 15 days our first culture is ready to feed the froggy off of and I started a new culture from it. This time I added a little powdered milk, ground cinnamon and twice as much yeast. I still have a few other tweaks to try if this does not do the job, but I'm sure I will get good results with enough practice. I will post a picture once I have a chance.
Seems the first culture died really quickly. We will get another from the store and hope the second culture turns out better.
the second attempt does seem to be doing better. I guess the powdered milk and cinnamon really do make a difference. I still have a few tweaks to make to the recipe if the second time does not do as good as I would like.
I am glad it is working out betterAnd I totally understand allergies, I am allergic to about every animal and plant. And thats why I keep frogs :P
the second culture is booming with flies and I started a third culture. this time I added more powdered milk than last time and a bit more yeast. I am hoping for a really good boom for this one. If I at least get it as good as the second culture than I should have lots of flies for my froggy.
The third culture has boomed and is the best one yet. It looks about as full as the commercial cultures. The second culture is still doing okay but I think I have the recipe figured out now. Next time I make the stuff I will be making a video.
going to be filming that video in a moment hope you enjoy it.
I have filmed the video but it has gone through some problems in the editing stage. Plus I killed my blender while making the video and had to buy a new one. The blender was about 8 years old so part of it was just age.
thought you might like to know that the third culture is still going strong. This leads me to believe I have the media mixture just right.
Here is the video of me making the Fruit Fly Culture Media finally. It's in 2 parts hope you enjoy it.
