I had known about vinegar removing calcium deposits, I have used it on my old fish tanks after I took the fish out. There are no water spots or build up on the tank or anything, it looks pretty well taken care of by the previous owner. I was just trying to find an alternative to using chemicals to sanitize the whole tank.

Your method sounds a lot better than using vinegar or just hot water though, I am going to go ahead and do this. Thanks Carlos!
