Hey, I just noticed that the soil in my Fire-Bellied toad tank is harbouring a clan of mushrooms. At least, I think they are mushrooms. I included a couple of pics. Just wondering if I should leave it be, or if that means I need to dismantle and redo the entire tank.
Apparently the pics did not want to upload. Let's try this again....
Fungi are common in frog terraria. I've seen some weird and wonderful shapes and colours.

So I should just leave them? I do think they are kind of cool. There are also a lot of little white mites in the soil around them; I take it they come hand in hand.
I have never seen mites walk hand in hand, but I guess anything is possible.![]()
You have to look really closely, but they do walk hand in hand....kind of romantic, don't u think? Lol!
Fantastic!!!! I always get really excited when I see mushrooms popping up in any of my vivs, it lets you know that your little ecosystem is functioning correctly. Enjoy them while they pop up :-)
Out of interest sake do you have any insects in the soil?
No, not insects. Besides the little mite-like things that seem to be hanging around wtih the mushrooms. Should I be adding anything? Or are insects in the soil bad? I am quite excited about the mushrooms too; I just hope they can pop through the layer of moss I have as ground cover.
That is cool JoAnna!!! I had wondered if it was ok for mushrooms or lichen to grow in the Terrarium. I would love to put red lichen in mine. Little mushrooms would be nice too. I think it adds to the ambience of creating a natural forest floor setting.
Great job on growing the mushrooms!![]()
Thanks...it wasn't really planned but they are very neat looking. I hope they break the surface and are sturdy enough to deal with some rather hyper toads. If they grow any more or do anything mushroom-y (is that a word?? lol) I will take a picture-or two.
Finally had a wee mushroom break the surface. It seems rather fragile, so hopefully the 8 toads don't stomp it into mushroom soup.
cool!
