Thread: Almost ready for Red Eyed Tree Frog

Default Almost ready for Red Eyed Tree Frog

I've got the home set up. Fake plants, paper towels, water bowl, heating pad, UV light. I covered half the tank with saran wrap.

I bought 1000 pinhead crickets online which came in yesterday.

I bought house flies which came in today.

I've got the calcium with vitamin D.

All I am waiting for now is the therm o-hygrometer to come in, which is going to be in by Tuesday. Quite a while to wait unfortunately. But once that comes in, I'm completely ready! I'd already bought the analog temperature and humidity gauges but was told that those aren't the best to use. I ended up finding a digital one that had been for my bearded dragon. I went out and bought a battery for it then used it to test the cage, see what combinations would have it reading correctly (76-78 F temp, 70-80 humidity) and then suddenly some of the lines for the numbers disappeared. So I couldn't tell what numbers they were. Piece of ****! So I bought a digital one online.

Finally all my money is in, I have enough to buy the actual frog today, but I'm going to wait for the temperature/humidity gauge to come in.

I let Gandalf eat some of the pinheads, he gets them just fine, the Red Eye should be around the same size. I'm sure he/she will be able to eat them easily.

I was wondering if American Gray Tree Frogs can be housed with Red Eyed Tree Frogs? Like once the Red Eye's quarantine session is over. Gandalf already went through the quarantining and he's very healthy, so.

I am being so patient for this Red Eye, I've been waiting like a month! Running into issues, waiting, running into issues, waiting. I should certainly have one by next week. I may even get two, we will have to see.

I've decided that one will be named Frenchy. :P

I always advise against mixing species. You never know how they will react to each other, if they are toxic to each other.... asking for unknown problems when you start mixing. Mixing is typically only recommended for very seasoned keepers, but is over all frowned upon in the hobby.

Also the pinheads will out grow your Red Eye in 2 weeks or so. Just letting you know so you can plan ahead on getting the next order headed your way.
