American Toad feeding

Hey folks, so I know its best to give these toads a varied diet but I was wondering how far to take this. Some local shops have things like feeder caterpillars, shell-less snails, etc. Are there anything besides crickets that are more nutritious for Toads? Or is there anything I should watch out for and never give him besides the size issue?

Night crawlers (not dyed from Walmart or local bait shops) should be a toad's main staple. If toad is very small (1-2 in.) cut worms from pointy end in mouth sized chunks. 2-3 in. toads can handle body length pieces and above can handle the whole worms. Another good choice are recently molted Dubia roaches sized same as distance between toad's eyes. My American toads at primarily night crawlers. They are pretty much the most nutritious and easily digestible food that you can give them. Just make sure that they're dye free (not dyed for fishing) and do not have chemicals. Mine occasionally got crickets but preferred night crawlers over anything. Make sure you're dusting with vitamins and calcium.

Thanks for the info! I see "red worms" online which look like they are just small earthworms. Do you just keep them in the fridge in the original container? Also how much do you feed with earthworms? I see most guidelines are for feeding crickets.

"Red" worms are likely red wigglers and taste horrible. Do not feed him those or he might reject ALL worms. Cut them from the pointy end as Carlos told you, then you can either throw them in a dish (like a lid off a container) or tong feed them.
