Difference between male and female American Gray Tree Frogs?

Males will call, females will not. That's the most certain way. I've heard of differences in nuptial pads, but I'm not sure about that method.

That's when they're adults though. He asked about before they're adults. When they are adults though, yes, the males will call. Females will be bigger. Males will get darker throats. Females can get some black specks on their throat but they'll stay mainly white.

It's not always cut and dry though. I have one male that has never called or had a dark throat, no nuptial pads...yet I found him in amplexus with my big female after 3 years in my care. I have one of my females that could potentially be a male. She is the same size as my other males, but has never called or had a dark throat. So until I have proof otherwise, I will assume female.
