i just wanted to try them. i want to try a variety so they don't just want one type of food. the newest one likes bean beetles so i'm culturing them as well.

I have read many times that these are very difficult for them to digest.
Tics, even though they are a larger PDF prefer smaller feeders ( the fr flies)
When a new feeder is introduced they do shy away like that........they're silly..........

Cultured on black eyed peas in a fr fly container and TIGHT lid !
They are simple to culture... the beetle's reproduction comes and goes.
As long as you throw a few fresh peas in every now and them ( and not remove every beetle) ....they will keep going easily
Sometimes they look like there done...but hang in there.
If they become inactive; give them some beans and some time.

I use bb about once a week , and only a few.
I don't give bb to my thumbnail or pumilio.
Feeding them more often and too many at one time can lead to digestive difficulties; so "they" say?

I put a long strip of thick corrugated cardboard into the culture container........the beetles like to crawl in-between the layers; this make it easy to bang a few out into the frog's enclosure.

thank you. i do have bean beetles and i am just letting them do their thing. frog #3 loves them, the other 2 are still figuring it out. i have plenty of melan FF and a bunch of Hydei also. just making lots of cultures and hoping for the best. i do have 2 pet stores that carry Melanogaster if i run out.

I used these once on my WTF or Fowler toad, can't remember, but will NEVER use them again on non-chewing critters. They came out the other end whole and still alive. They are more for lizards that chew or you need to pierce them before feeding them to amphibians.
