Hi all, I have a few questions about RETF breeding.

1- How long can a male stay in amplexus?
2- Will a male stay in amplexus if a female is not receptive?
3- Will a female lay on leaves that are not above water if there is a pond in the aquarium? I want to know if I need to check everywhere in the tank for the eggs?
4- Does the male release the female right after eggs are fertilized?

Sorry not sure how this thread slipped through the cracks. Thanks for bumping it back up for us

1. He will stay as long as the female lets him

2. If she is not receptive she will push him off. If you notice her stressed and can't get free than separate them carefully

3. She will lay where ever she find suitable. They prefer leaves, but they will also lay on the vivarium glass as well. They wont be hard to miss. Their clutches usually are 50 - 100 eggs.

4. Typically once the job is done they will separate and move on. Just because you see them in Amplexus and then seperated does not mean that an egg clutch was deposited.

Are they in a rain chamber or in their normal vivarium?

They are in a standard 90 gallon terrarium with a pond on one side. These are farmed animals that I just got, they look to be adults and they have the max size of 2 3/4" for the females. The males have been calling sporadically every night since I got them. The female does not seem to be stressed, what scares me is that the plants I have in the tank are 3/4 over land and 1/4 over water, I would not want the eggs to be deposited on a leaf over land and not see them.

I have been spraying a lot in the tank, hopefully I get a good clutch and I find it.
