Planted some fern "seeds" about a month ago. I'm assuming it's not a real fern because ferns do not grow from seeds. Possibly a species of asparagus fern?

Any ideas what is going on with my rabbits foot fern? It was doing excellent and even had new growth, now the leaves are turning black. Too much water? I have it mounted on the background with lfs.
