Default Hey, new to the site!

Hows it going? I just joined the site.

I just got started in the hobby and have a 20gal with live plants and two Dendrobates leucomelas.
I came from the "aquascaping" world, so I tried to do something similar with terrestrial plants.

Default Hey, new to the site!

Hello! Welcome to the frog forum !

    Good choice the leucs!

    The tank looks very nice!

    Have your frogs been quarantined?

This is necessary to confirm the health of your frog.

It doesn't have to be big, a 10 gallon would be fine, its just for a month

    It should include:
-paper towels as substrate. (Damp and unprinted
    -a place to hide
-a few things to climb on
    -a VERY shallow water dish.
-remember to maintain temps of 70-77 during the day and a small drop at night and 80-100 percent humidity.

When your frogs return to their new enclosure they should have more things to climb on.

Use as much of that space as possible!

    Good luck !

    Hey,
    Thanks!

I've quarantined the two frogs for about 3 weeks. I just put them into the 20gal this afternoon. Thanks for the info though.
I might add another small bonsai tree at the left end to give them something to climb. Does this species climb alot? Some sites say the do, others say not so much.

Excellent tank! Yes Leucs love to climb. They actually prefer something that is more around 24" heights, but if you added some branches to reach across the top of the tank or a few vines than they would be in heaven. Flybyferns (a Mod) has a post about a moss vine. Or you could simply get a fake vine, or make one or whatever lol.

    Thanks!
That's a great idea, actually, I have a just-trimmed bonsai tree on the right end of the tank. I was hoping to grow its branches across the middle to create an upper canopy above the "forest floor" and fog.

    Thanks!

The plants I have are various kinds of moss and moss like-plants covering the "island" floor, and basically just interesting looking weeds & herbs I gathered from by backyard. I decided to use only local growing plants so I can always have the option of changing out plants that grow too large or aggressively.

Plus there's a huge variety of plants to choose from!

oh, well see, there's a bit of a problem there. one, you are bringing in not only plants and moss, but also the bad things that come with them. amphibians are EXTREMELY sensitive t items in their immediate environment since they absorb everything through their skin. past that is the fact that the wildflowers you are using are native to the US and will eventually, if not fairly quickly wither and die due to the high humidity in the tank. what are the parameters of the tank? temp? humidity?

That is a very beautiful tank, but Bill is right, you will have to get some new plants

Thanks for your concern. I completely understand you guys.
    Temp: 77F
    Humidity: 84%
    LxWxH: 29x12x13

Believe me I know all about quarantining things. I soak all the plants in a very salty & sugary solution for about 30 seconds. which generally kills most things off, and quarantine them for a few weeks. I did this for plants I found in the lake. I had a lot of success breeding bettas and raising their fry.
Those yellow and purple wildflowers just bloomed when I switched in some flowering bulbs. I had no idea they would flower... I was trying to see what the tank looked like under colormax bulbs, seeing that Dendrobates leucomelas doesn't need any specific lighting. All the plants and moss have been doing well the past 4 months in about 100% humidity all day long (before I had frogs in there). Admittedly some plants didn't seem to tolerate the high humidity, but the ones in there now have been thriving under jungle conditions.
I was thinking on getting a few
bromeliads, to give the frogs a place to soak. Are they big enough for an adult? I just have a shallow reptile bowl in there.

    Welcome!
    It's lovely !

Can you create a post on the Viv or plant section
Could you possibly list the moss species you used and the name of the pink flower wildflower?
How long has the flower been in the enclosure.....?

It looks to be a layered bottom ....not a false bottom ?

    Thanks for sharing , Lynn
