Thread: Question - Will Baby Red Eyed Tree Frogs eat giant springtails?

Default Question - Will Baby Red Eyed Tree Frogs eat giant springtails?

I'm thinking of getting those as well as fruit flies, to mix things up. Has anyone ever fed them to their babies? If not, do you at least think they'd eat them?

No they are to small. You might be able to get them to eat the larger fruit fly species depending on how small the babies are. Your best bet is Pinhead crickets and larger crickets as they grow.

The babies are 3/4". Theyd eat pinheads being that small?

Yep, you want the feeder insect to be smaller than the distance between the frogs eyes. Pinheads are super small. If they seem to big try some fruit flies, but they will prefer crickets. The hardest part is sourcing them cheap enough to make it worth it. Crickets grow super fast and will out grow your frog in a matter of weeks.

    Hi
The problem with the flies is their speed ??
They may not be able to catch them- but worth a try
You could place a small ( say 1" x 1") clean, clean , clean pc of sponge in their tank with some juice on it
The flies may be attracted to it an stay in one area
Be sure to clean it daily to reduce any mold growth

You could begin to introduce bowl feeding to them
They pick this up very quickly-- even the little guys
