New False Tomato Frog Owner :)

Hello everyone

This is Pekoe, (like orange pekoe tea).

Yess this is the current viv he is in, no it's not permanent, I have a 30 gal I plan on moving him too ^^

This is my first time owning an amphibian, so I guess I'm lucky he's an easier species to care for than some, but I did adopt him knowing full well that there were some health issues involved.. I do not know how to treat him yet, or even what exactly caused the injuries (though I have a feeling it had to do with how he was housed), but I do know that at the very least he is living in a more "frog-friendly" environment than he was 13 days ago, so I think it was a good place to start.

If anyone has any information on what caused his injuries, (greying around nostrils and upper eyelids) or how to treat them, I would be most grateful for your opinions on my previous post: http://www.frogforum.net/tomato-frog...-nostrils.html
Aside from this I would just like to say that I'm here to meet new people, and if you do own or have owned the D. Guineti genus, I would love to talk and share some information

Hello and welcome to the forum! Your frog is beautiful. As for the injury to the eyelids, I'm not sure. Hopefully someone will see this and let you know. I would suggest a vet visit to see what is all going on with Pekoe (very creative name, by the way, I love it!) Unfortunately, adopting already unhealthy animals can get a bit expensive. It is great to know that he will have someone to look after his needs now though!

Hi. Cool Frog. I like Tomato frogs and most things red since red is my favorite color. However I only own a Giant African Bullfrog and a few locally caught Woodhouse's Toads. I once did purchase an adult female False Tomato Frog from PetSmart. You should probably know that Some people may have an alergic reaction to their skin. I don't know if this is common. When I bought mine I had set up a temporary enclosure out of a sterilyte bin. I picked up the frog out of the enclosure with the palm of my hand touching the frog's back. Within seconds the palm of my hand starting itching and it was very uncomfortable to the point where I had to scratch it and run to the bathroom to wash my hands. After that I only used disposable (blue nitrile) latex gloves that I fortunately had on hand to handle the frog. She wouldn't eat the first day I brought her home and I actually ended up taking her back to PetSmart the next day to return her. She was a perfectly good frog. I already had my African Bullfrog though and decided I wasn't interested enough to keep the Tomato Frog even though they are truly fascinating.
