Substrate, mold, air and lights

I have just recently adopted a White's Tree Frog. The humidity in my terrarium is lower than what it should be. I have rocks for the bottom, then coconut fibre and on top of that I have moss. The moss is drying up and I found mold on a hard wood branch I just recently bought. Does anyone have suggestions on what I can do to get the humidity up? I spray quite a few times a day and I just added a compact lamp (for one bulb) with repti-glo light and have a fluker's lamp with the infrared light. Would these lights together be causing too much heat and would it be better to turn the infrared light down to a lower heat? I have fake plants only and I don't want anymore mold. Would a small fan help? If so, where do you put it?


On the exo-terra bulb box, it says the infrared light & repti-glo work good together.

Any suggestions would be great. I'm new at this.

Heat lamps can definitely cause the humidity to go down. Grape wood molds over quite easily, so it shouldn't be used in a terrarium with high humidity.

Humidity can also be affected by the lid. If you have a mesh top, try covering 1/2 to 2/3 with saranwrap or some other non-pourous material.

*Be sure not to do this in such a way that a heat lamp is over a flammable material.

Thanks for your replies. Regarding: covering part of the lid; how much air needs to go through for good ventilation? I have a fluker's lamp and a compact light that covers almost half of the lid. Is there a wood that won't mold?

I turned the heat lamp down and my White's tree frog was always brown since I've had him/her, now he is green. Is he happier or is it the temperature change or both?

Yes, there is, but I can't remember what its called. Check out either Josh's Frogs or Black Jungle, they are likely to have the answer (and the wood).
