Default Can African Dwarf's live solely on Brine Shrimp?

Is brine shrimp enough for them to live on. Are blood worms more nutritious?

Default How much brine should an African Dwarf eat a day?

I usually let each of my african dwarf frogs eat 2-3 shrimp each per day. Is this too little? Thanks!

DACFs should be fed until tummies start to look look rounder or to satiation. A one item diet is not recommended. Other recommended food items are: thawed frozen bloodworms (if allergic to them like myself, get cubes, not flats); thawed frozen daphnia; live black worms; tadpole bites (pellets). Do not use any freeze dried foods!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Thanks for letting me know! A fish store owner who's been in my town since 1989 told me Brine shrimp would provide them enough nutrients. I trusted him and took my frogs off the pellet diet thinking live food would be the best. Since then they've gotten really skinny. I tried getting all natural Spirulina powder and putting it in the shrimp tank to gut load the brine but after a day all the shrimp died. I was told you can't let Spirulina powder sink to the bottom. I wish I had Spirulina growing along side the brine.

Do you like the brand Hikari. They make a ton of good frozen things I didn't know about like frozen gut loaded brine, frozen bloodworms, frozen daphina ect.

Hikari is an excellent brand of both frozen and pellet fish food .

Okay, Took your advice, got 2 packages of Hikari Frozen Blood Worms, 3 packages of Brine Shrimp, 1 Package of Daphina. Let it thaw for like 20-30 minutes. Then I feed them. I am having a tough time feeding them but I will start another thread about that here for anyone who would like to respond. Thanks for all the help in saving my ADF'S.

I Use Omega One Carnivore medley (Brine shrimp, Mysis Shrimp and Bloodworms). I load a half of a cube into a turkey baster and put it into the tank above my frog's heads. They eat well, then Rufio the Betta fish joins them to eat the leftovers (he's kept in a separate tank while they eat because they are quite food aggressive and he has fishy ADD.)

Okay, feeding them the thawed frozen blood worms, or brine shrimp everyday. How much should they be given. I usually give 2-3 each. I'll try the turkey basted. Tried putting tape around the tweezers but they would't grip the food.

Do not take dry food out of their diet. Since our frogs live in captivity, we cannot always ensure enough variety that will cover all of the frogs' dietary needs. Also, dry food has the correct ratio of D3 and calcium. While some ADF will not accept dry food, I think you should always attempt it. When I kept ADF, I noticed that they preferred the specially formulated Xenopus Food from Xenopus Express over Frog and tadpole bites. I strongly recommend you look into feeding Xenopus Express' sinking pipid frog food.
