A lot depends on the Viv and the builder. Some are built with false bottoms, some drainage layers, some have backgrounds of spray foam, some use construction foam, others don't even use a background. It is possible to build a tank on a low budget. The 125 i built cost me about $50 in materials (not counting the tank). The plants however, cost more than everything else.

The plants cost more than everything else put together, but its worth it! Like bill said every tank is different. Depending on the resources available and the builder's taste. It also depends on the species. Someone building a tank for darts would focus a little more on arboreal plants than someone building a tank for say mantellas.

So true. I have more money in plants than the actual cost of my tanks. Lol

And actually Eli, Mantellas and darts are similar, as far as vivs and care go.

Some people use cork panels siliconed onto the glass, others use tree fern panels, and some even just use hygrolon, etc. It really depends on what look or use you're looking for.
I believe our moderator Lynn prefers to use a sloping substrate, and LOTS of magnaturals, so as to prevent the frogs from coming into contact with chemicals.

I came in here looking for some ideas, and HOLA. You guys have some serious tanks. No messing around here. I feel almost bad to submit my 10 gallon for 2 frogs compared to what I see in this thread.

Thanks for showing them. I got some really good ideas on a tank for my new boys. (I think they are boys? I may have to read on how to sex them - haha!
