New to tree frogs

So i'm new to the amphibian scene, as i recently took a whites tree frog from a friend cause she was moving. I noticed something was up with it's mouth, but it didn't seem to be affecting it.

I know he's a tree frog so would there be any reason why he doesn't climb the glass or chill in the branches like my crested gecko does? He hides in the dirt all day under the plants, but not in them.

I also noticed that i occasionally see him trying to get something out of his mouth. It covers his legs and arms and it's like a mucus type substance, and is covered in dirt. I doubt im supposed to but i feel bad for him choking on it so i help him get it out.. What is that stuff..?

He eats like a champ btw, eats like 3-4 crickets a day.

Welcome aboard! Sounds like he's shedding to me, it gets pulled into their mouths and they eat it, which is normal frog behavior (look it up on YouTube). His mouth looks deformed in that pic though... have any other pics of him that are clearer? Did your friend say anything about having a deformity or injury or anything?

I asked about it when she gave it to me and she said that it's been like that since he got it. This is a different angle, so.

I was just about to type ---- it's probably been like that.
So that good to know.

Double check the humidity level.
If he's hiding--- it may be too dry ?

The light is close ---- careful it does not create a hot spot !!!

* dust the crickets with calcium Vit D a few times a week
* use de-chlornated water- only- for his soaking dish
* monitor temp an humidity carefully

a taller --- rather than wider ---enclosure is typically arranged for a tree frog - for example minimum 24 " high
ie - turn the tank on its side - when you get settled you could look into conversion instructions and/or a conversion kid for his existing enclosure.

I have multivitamin and calcium dust.. ive been dusting calcium 3 times a week and vitamin 2 times. I just checked and the humidity was about 45.. so i misted it. And I will definitely look into a conversion kit when i get the money!

So a quick question.. Is there any reason why he might croak whenever i listen to my music? I listen to alot of edm and he croaks whenever i listen to it.. Does that mean he thinks its other frogs croaking, does he like it, does he hate it, what's the deal with that.. lol

you have a male, and he likes the sounds, he is singing along.
