Can American Green tree frogs (Hyla cinerea) and Gray tree frogs (Hyla versicolor) live in the same setup?

The short answer is very simple ........NO !

Do a Frog Forum search for 1000s and 1000s of reasons and posts as to why this should not happen.

You're asking......... So you know....you have doubts... It's not a good idea.

Can't stress this enough , and in most cases doing so will eventually end with some terrible consequences; and preventable ones to boot.

Beside the possibility of cross toxicity, ongoing stress, parasites and illness ---------- remember: one doesn't have to be larger to eat it's tank mate, just really hungry!

Problems exist and are especially true if your frogs are wild caught ---- which means they have parasites. They can have parasites that don't necessarily cause 'them' an issue/illness but when exposed to another species can be a disaster for both!

There are most definitely some frogs that have VERY specific reasons as to why they can't be mixed with others:

-a - big- Pacman will die from toxins if mixed w/ those cute little fire bellied toads ( hence that neon warning the fire bellies sport on their bellies !)

-Pickerel frogs looks very similar to Northern Leopard frogs --- as a result of this they are sadly housed together ( when plucked from their natural habitat ) The pickerel frogs are very toxic resulting in the death of the N Leopards. This is a wonderful example of why they should just be left alone.

-And then there's our poor little Cuban Tree Frogs------they will eat anything, even their own species!!!

There are lots more examples ! I'm sure you get the picture!

Thanks, good info! Best to ask ahead of time instead of doing something that will ultimately wind up in disaster! I was wondering because I saw somewhere about someone keeping White's TFs together with a White Lipped tree frog (Litoria caerulea and Litoria Infrafrenata), which he says share the same range in the wild, so I wondered about the American TFs.

I would like to get 2-3 Whites someday, but I think I'd rather start with something a little closer to what I'm used to, which is why I'm thinking about Grays OR Greens (not both together, now that I know, but space is limited to one tank) I would like to keep my Pacific tree frog "house guests" but know I shouldn't really (have to get a license which I've heard is darn near impossible) so was wondering which of the two other American tree frogs out there in the legal pet trade might be best for me. The Grays look the closest with their rounder faces, and I'd like a frog that's calmer and not so flighty, but I do love me some green-green lookin frogs too... not that my current little friends are, exactly, lol, but they do change
