    Default wild toad in danger

So i have 5 dogs and 3 are terriers and they hunt and kill EVERYTHING. i have them in a fenced acre yard. but we have had a BIG toad out back for the past few nights. last night when i took the dogs out to pee, there it was again. I picked him up while my female terrier was sniffing it. i put it close by but in a safe spot until the dogs would be in for the night. if i leave him in the back yard he will surely be killed. If i move him to the front yard, will he stay there? i worry about his safety. If he will not stay in the front yard, i will have to move him somewhere safe. i hate to do that, but i don't trust that my dogs would leave him alone.

If you relocate him a reasonable distance, he should find a new home!

I'd move it further away than your front yard if possible, they can be pretty good at finding their way 'home'.

I once did battle with a big American Toad in a huge wood pile that I was in the process of splitting and stacking. Pieces of wood would often do some tumbling- it wasn't a safe toad location. I moved the toad a few times to the safety of the garden, it would return to it's favorite wood pile even with several hundred feet of displacement. I eventually settled on being as careful as possible. Yours will hopefully not be as determined.

Best of luck and thanks for caring about the toads safety.

this is our Big guy. the night i took this pic was monday night, and last night my 2 younger terriers were chasing him almost caught him. i had to catch him, set him in a bucket and placed him ( again) into the front yard. I have a feeling i have to relocate him permanently. i hate to do it, but i don't want to find his dead body. but i only see him at night, so i have to either keep him in a bucket with some grass? overnight, or try to drive him somewhere at night. i love that he is here eating the bugs. poor guy. or gal. Not sure which. this is him/her next to my size 7 womans foot.

Good size toad! I would walk him a few blocks away and let him go, he should be safe then. If not, then I'd run him further.

i live in the country sort of, but the houses are closer to the back roads than i'd like. i live 3 miles from a state park, and he'd probably do great there. if i find him again, i am going to have to move him.
