no, but i have seen pics where people have used them just as a decoration, but have a little bit of water in them, as they sit at a tilt. i saw that a bunch of springtails were around it. so i guess i just like the way they look.

I have a few as decoration also. They do collect and hold water naturally and resist breaking down long term. You dont HAVE to silicone them unless you want to. I think the silicon will take away from the cool look they get when wet.
