OK, first of want to start off by saying I'm new to fbt's not amphibians in general, fish or reptiles. OK, I have a 55 gal tank that I want to create their permanent habitat in, I have 6 fbt's that I currently host in a 10gal. Which has six inches of water covering 2/3 of tank and a few rocks with peat moss on them for land. I was wondering how well they would in a bog type environment, if they would do well I'd like some ideas how to create one, I made one like 15yrs ago in school but don't really remember how. Or I'd like to create almost a natural lake type setting, 2/3 water 1/3 land. Both ideas would have running water, live plants as well as guppies in the water. I know they can be toxic for other animals, but from what I've researched, you can keep guppies as long as you have a decent amount of water as well as filtration. What would be the best possible environment for my little buddies?
You are right about 2/3 water 1/3 land. What you could do is get a divider to keep land and water seperate, and then heavily plant the water section with java fern, anubias etc. you may also be able to put a few plants on the land bit as well. Also a 10 gal is very small for 6 FBTs, but the 55 gal wiuld be great for them. Keep us pisted on your progress

Well I was up early this morning doing research on plants and filtration. Im worried that their toxins will kill of the guppies. So, apparently with the setup I'm buying I'll have a dual type of filtration going on which should limit the toxins in the water. So I'm actually going to water pass thru the gravel sand mix that plants for the land part will have there roots before reaching the actual filter which returns the water thru a waterfall and make its way to the water part via a river type thing, I'm sure this type of filter has been seen in numerous pet stores. My LFS has a great section for fbts, fbns and African drawfs.. Its got all the moses, cedar bark as well as slate, hollow logs and all kinds of real plants. I appreciate Ur advice and I'll definitely keep everyone updated, pictures coming soon
Ohhh also, I've read about the impaction problem ppl have ran into with fbt's, so all the land will be covered in "frog moss" and the water part will have sand with big stones mixed in. As well as java moss and a few other plants, like money warts and baby tears.
You seem to know your stuff. Unfortunately i believe 1 of my fbts is impacted right now

Ohh no... I hope he survives, yea from what I've read there's a lot of ppl who have this issue. I only read a couple of them where the fbt survived, thru vet help... So I hope Ur issue isn't impaction... Good luck.
I hope she survives as well, theres no herp vet near to me so ill have to try and maje her better myself...
