Im trying make a better viv for my three fire belly toads. i need some tips, guidelines, or links about making vivariums with good stuff, and what temperature to bake the piece of grapevine i have (if i even need to).
its a ten gallon tank, going for 50/50 style, has a small duetto filter, im going to try and put some live plants in here as well. the substrate im going to switch from ecoearth to organic potting soil.
i was thinking of only using the goodstuff as a small barrier on one side of the dividing grapevine so that the water doesnt go through, and then filling that dry side with the potting soil and then adding some plants. does that sound like it will work?
also what plants do you reccomend for this type of set up?
i was thinking devils ivy, maybe water bamboo, but wouldnt that get too tall? any suggestions?
Sounds like you have a plan, but I don't understand your dividing the land and water idea. Here's a pic of my simple 10 gallon setup. Sorry, its from a cheap camera, my nice one needs new batteries. The land area consists of a large rock with smaller rocks covering it and sloping down to the water. I use a small reptile canister filter with rocks built up around it (there are usually more rocks, this picture was taken when I was remodeling the tank). There are two live plants and one plastic plant for the toads to hide in.
well i went ahead and with some help from my dad i have created a new vivarium for these little buggers.
its a 20 gallon long tank, half land half water, with real plants, and a nice background. the plants need to grown in and it should look nice.
i do have one question though, now that i have a larger tank how many frogs can i house in it? its a 20 gal long like i said so i was thinking maybe just getting two more for a total of five. or can i house more than that?
thanks heres some pictures ^_^

wat all did u use to divide your tank like that? i cant really tell lol
its a peice of grape vine from the petstore cut in half and a plexiglass panel siliconed in the middle to the glass, creating a waterproof divider. it looks very natural i was surprised at the finished product.
