I was transfering my sons leopard frog from his feeding tank to his habitat and he had odd moment of not moving like usual and one of his legs was stuck extended... And he was twitching all over, leg slow came in but twitch is still there... Any ideas??![]()
Are there any signs of injury besides the leg? What could have happened that he could have hurt himself. A pic would help. Can you answer the questions in this thread? http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...enclosure.html consider this the frog problem bible. Written by Lynn and Grif

The leg in the water is still twitching but it is slowing down
Is he still able to move and swim fine? If not he may be having a muscle spasm. I'm not sure if the same is true for frogs but in humans muscle spasms don't last long and go away. If after a couple days the leg is still twitching then i would consult a vet. Monitor him closely nonetheless

Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
I believe it is a northern leopard frog, my son got him at a local pond. Have had him for about a year. Was a little frog when we got him. No medications and was seperat from the second leopard frog for around a month before together; together for a yr now. they have fake plants and coconut substrate. Usually eats crickets who are fed vitamin powder prior to feeding time, sometimes butterworms or wax worm.Though has not shown much interest in waxworms. Last crickets were a week ago, and a couple butterworms since then. There is two leopard frogs around same size in 20 gallon tank. Usually try to free feed but will feed in ten gal encloser if cleaning something with tank. They are in my room away from a lot of traffice, usually only myself and the kids handle but wash hands beforehand after. He has not done this ever before and never had any issues. It seem better today no twitch that I can tell and is moving around like usual. Sorry am working from cell phone at moment.

You said it is eating crickets with vitamin powder, are you offering any calcium supplements? Twitching legs would leave me to think it a calcium deficiency

How big are the frogs? You can get a larger tank for cheap on craigslist or wait for petco to have another $1 a gallon sale. The price for a 30-40 gallon tank drops significantly. I would avoid Amazon. The sellers there inflate the prices dramatically and i have seen regular 10 gallon tanks for well over 50 dollars

Suspect your frog is suffering from CA deficiency which has brought Metabolic Bone Disease. Feeding CA or vitamins to crickets will never equal dusting them with appropriate supplements. Recommend get some Repashy or RepCal products and use them according to following schedules: http://www.frogforum.net/food-feeder...schedules.html. Placing dusted crickets in a semi buried glass bowl will help keep dust on them. Also; recommend add not dyed night crawlers (from Walmart or local bait shop) as main staple to their diet.
I'm not sure from answers if you have a divided tank with wet/dry sections or a tank with dry substrate and a water dish. If the later; dish needs to be cleaned and refilled daily. Leopard frogs are mostly aquatic and will spend majority of the time in water. They really need a split tank set-up; maybe 60/40 wet to dry ratio. A cycled filter in wet area will help remove toxins from water like Ammonia and Nitrites. A 25% weekly water change together with filter will keep water side OK for frogs.
Substrate should be shredded coco or if using live plants, ABG type soil. Coco bark pieces can lead to impaction and more problems. Here is also a care article for your frogs: Frog Forum - Leopard Frog Care - Rana pipiens (Schreber, 1782) and R. sphenocephala (1886). Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
