    Default I'm Back

I'm not brand new, but I haven't posted much this year, so I thought I would reintroduce myself.
In March, I was glad to find this Frog Forum. I explained that while I don't own any frogs, I had a 400g goldfish pond where I had a few frogs living. Not long after that post, my pond thawed and I found my frogs dead, with the exception of one, who survived, stayed a while, but eventually left.

Since then, a lot has changed. Before bringing the fish back outdoors, I tore out my 400g pond. I decided to go bigger and installed an 800g pond. Among making it wider and longer, I also made it a foot deeper than the previous pond. I added water lilies and a couple of floating logs. Its not complete just yet. I still have to finish the waterfall area.

Surrounding the pond area are all sorts of plants and logs. Good for cover, shelter, and for attracting insects.

For filtration, I was originally going to go with a barrel or stock tank setup, but after a lot of research, I went with a bog. The reason I chose a bog, besides seeing it work for many others, is that it would also provide an excellent area for frogs. A bog will not last forever, but it should last a while, and wouldn't be too much work or too expensive to replace. Its still in its first season, so the plants are a little thin, but should fill in much nicer by next year. Its also done a great job as far as water clarity and quality in my pond.

So after all that work, I've been waiting for frogs to show up, and sure enough, a few weeks ago, I found a small Leopard Frog hanging out in the bog.

Its stuck around and I now have two frogs. The second is a young Bullfrog, which just arrived last night and was spotted again tonight. That reminded me to come back to the forum and share what I've done to make a home for wild frogs, toads, and of course my goldfish.

It looks great! I'm jealous, I've always wanted a pond but do not want the upkeep.
