Hi ff. What kind of froglet do I have?

Hi frogforum. I'm new and so is my frog. Was hoping somebody could help me ID him so I can give him a proper home!

I "rescued" him as a tadpole from a Petco feeder fish tank out here in the San Francisco bay area. He looked a *tad* different from the goldfish and minnows (-:

He sprouted hindlegs a little more than a week ago (first pic), and now he appears to be a frogpole (second pic)! As you can see, he has absorbed most of his tail. He appears to be a muddy brownish with spots, and stripes on his hind legs. He is lighter in color on the underside. Can anybody shed some light on what type of frog I own?

Hello, CALADOR. Welcome, and salutations! I'm not too certain about it, but because you found it at PETCO, I'm thinking maybe a American Bullfrog? The color looks a little off, but I haven't seen too many freshly metamorphosed American Bullfrogs before. There's some members here that should be able to tell you what kind of frog you have, and I'm only making a guess. I observe toads mainly, so I usually fail at IDing Ranid Frogs. I'm thinking Am. Bullfrog, though. They are sold alot at petstores, and as fish bait at bait shops. Nice looking froglet, though. Good luck!

I'm with you Billy..That looks just like a American Bullfrog.

I will confirm the ID, Lithobates catesbeiana, the North American bullfrog, which is our largest native frog. Its possible it could be a pig frog, Lithobates grylio, as well, but I beleive it's more likely that it is a bullfrog

Really? If I were closer, I'd suggest coming over to your place for fried frog's legs. It's been a while since I had some Frog Legs
