At my farm I found a fowler toad that was dragging its hind limb. Not only did I worry that it would get stepped on but we have 3 barn cats that would have made a meal out of him. I am completely new to frogs and I tried to set him up a small recovery tank to try and help him heal his leg. It's a 4 gallon with the Zilla dirt sand from where I had found him and green moss and I had a shallow bowl and a suction cup vine plant for him to hide under. He seems pretty active and alert and ate 4 small crickets. My concern is that he is freaking out about the sides of the tank, trying to climb them, jumping into it, etc. I'm afraid this is doing more harm then good for his injured leg. Is this normal for a toad from the wild to behave like this? Is the tank too small? Any suggestions would be awesome all I want to do is help the poor guy.
