Hey does anybody know how long the zoomed hydroballs last because it seems mine are starting to not be as effective and I only had them for two months.

Hi Danielle! Could you please explain further the above quote? Only task of lecca in frog vivariums is to raise the substrate above the water level. There should be a layer of plastic window screen between lecca layer and substrate above. How can lecca become ineffective doing that?

A secondary benefit is providing a porous surface for nitrifying bacteria to inhabit the below substrate water and help break down ammonia from frogs urine in water. The only thing lecca does in this process is to provide the surface area, and other factors control the healthy cycled status of the water .

Sure thing i purchased the hydroballs because I was told they would help raise my humidity because it would fall into the mid fifties and the hydroballs actually would lift the humidity up pretty well usually keeping it around eighty and now it seems to drop back to mid fifties again and I was told they last awhile

LECA does not create humidity. The humidity is created by any water within the leca layer. Leca is not porous, it's about the same as breaking up terra cotta pots, throwing the pieces in the tank and then soil on top.

Sorry, but you were given incomplete information.

To raise humidity you have to increase misting (or fogging) and/or reduce ventilation. Also, use of high wattage heat sources like light bulbs and other heat emitters will work against you, as they are quite efficient at lowering humidity.
