Good evening everyone,
I need everybody's thoughts on my American Bullfrog "Mija".
I'm worried about my little girl. She has been acting
Very odd the past few days. To start she has been very lethargic and barely reacting when I stick my: hand in her tank. Normally, she would at least spaz out for a second or two. Now she barely movers.
At first when I would go to feed her, she would be ready, and couple of times, she would strike at the cricket keeper tubes. Last night I had to tong-feed her meal worms, she would give it a strike but fail to grab the meal worm. At one point, I would have to rub her nose to get her to try and eat. Tonight, she gave a couple half-assed attempts to grab a worm, we had no luck.g
I don't know what else to do. She looks healthy, not bloated or too skinny. Any thoughts?
Please help, I'll answer any questions that come up so we can figure out what a wrong with her!
Thanks everyone
Sorry your frog is not well. Please answer below questions to try and figure out what is the issue, thank you

“Trouble in the Frog Enclosure”
The following information will be very helpful if provided when requesting assistance with either your frog or enclosure. To help with your questions, please utilize the below list and post the information in the proper forum area to get advice from FF members that keep the same frog. This will allow for little confusion and a faster more informed response.
1. Tank Size and volume of water in it (full, 1/2 filled, etc.)?
2. Number of inhabitants including all frogs and any fish?
3. Water source and any conditioner treatments?
4. Water Temperature and how is it heated (if so)?
5. Water chemistry levels: pH; Ammonia (NH3); Nitrites (NO2); Nitrates (NO3)? Note that if you do not have test kits, most aquariums/pet shops will do complimentary tests if you take a clean water sample.
6. Describe any filter system including model and media?[/COLOR]
7. Substrate type?
8. Tank set-up (plants (live or artificial), driftwood, hide outs and other decor? - How were things prepared prior to being put into the tank?

11. Lighting set-up and hours it's used?
12. When is the last time frog ate?

17. How long have you owned him/her?

Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Thanks for the reply!
All my internet is from my phone and its not the smartest of smartphones! I'll try to answer what I can remember from the list, or at least the major points
Tank is 55gal, 2/3 water about 5"-8" deep. Her tank mates include 9 rosey red minnows(for her), a small Pleco, and a bunch of snails, and freshwater. clams
Water is treated tap water, all testing is well within range, no salt, filtered with a Tetra whisper filter. Filter media changed monthly, regardless if it needs it or not. Water changes could be more frequent, but they're not our of hand.
Gravel substrate in tank with larger rocks, driftwood, and fake plants. She has a "stick fort" as a hide along with various other spots to sneak off to.
Sorry, but I have to split this up, damn phone
Let's see...
Staple diet is currently crickets, with the occasional earthworm from an organic worm box made specifically for feeder worms. I'm currently trying to get a roach colony going.
Her tank is near a window and gets natural light plus light from a CFL spot. The tank is in the lowest traffic area in the house. I've raised her from a tadpole until now. This is her fourth summer alive, first two as a tadpole, and she became a froglet last summer.
She was rescued by me from the neighborhood kids as a tadpole, and was placed in my pond. She spent two years in the pond and in her third summer was brought inside as a tadpole, after finding out BF's are an invasive species in Oregon.
Sorry for all of the splits!
Mija is rarely handled, but interacted with daily. She "knows" me and will follow me around her tank. She freaks out every once in a while if I happen to surprise her. She's fine if I reach into the tank to clean it, she's used to being tong fed now and then.
There hasn't been any major changes recently to cause her any problems. I have know idea why she's acting sick.
The only other thing that has always worried me about her is that her "aim" sucks when she's feeding. She'll strike at a cricket and miss. Even while tong feeding her she'll take three or four tries to get a cricket. I don't know if she's going blind or what. All I know is that she's not herself.
I know these replies don't cover all of the asked questions, but looking through them I didn't have any red flags pop up.
Thanks for all of the help, its appreciated
Hello AbranV,
I have a few more questions for you.
How long would you guess your bullfrog is from nose to butt (snout to vent)?
Does he catch his food from the water or eat on land?
Do you use any calcium with vitamin D 3 supplement?
And multivitamin supplement?
Does he look bloated or has he lost weight?
Have you seen any pool recently and what was the consistency if it?
Is the frog acting uncoordinated? Or does he have any twitching like movements that you've noticed?
Thanks,
Heather
