I've had 'decent' luck removing necrotic limbs from caudates and swabbing the area with standard bacterial/fungal solutions. It is risky I suppose, but there are no decent herp vets around (frankfort, ky) me that I know of. I've had two instances with tiger salamanders where I removed badly infected legs and some gills, isolated the animals, and changed their water daily...They recovered quite well, but I suppose it's ultimately a gamble.
Yes, it is. I am not sure, but I think salamanders deal with this better than any frog. Still I don't reccomend it.
