I have a little ornate pac man with a bloated forelimb what can I do to bring the swelling down he has been sitting with his eyes closed a lot and won't eat but he can still move the limb. The limb is twice the size it should be and the foot is red.
I would say take it to a veti hope it will be okay
If you don't have a decent herp vet, and I mean this in all seriousness, you may consider clipping off the affected apendage.
you would really clip off the bad leg wouldnt that just kill it with the pain and how would you care for the open wound till it healed
I WOULD NOT attempt to amputate a limb, toe, or anything from a frog myself! There may be a simple remedy to solve this problem and certanly cutting it off would be stressful, painful and quite possibly lead to infection or sepsis and kill the frog.
Post some pictures atleast of the swollen limb, maybe someone will know more of what to do if calling or visiting a vet is not possible. A salt or sugar water bath may help with swelling? I dont know..
This site locates herp vets. Canadian provinces are listed a little lower on the page. There might be one within driving distance of you;
Herp Vet Connection
thanks for all the help but he passed away 5 hours after this post.
I am sorry to hear that.
It might be worthwhile to poke around the vet finder, and call around to confirm who handles frogs, so that you have that contact info on hand if you ever need it again.
Im so sorry for your loss.![]()
So sorry.
I've had 'decent' luck removing necrotic limbs from caudates and swabbing the area with standard bacterial/fungal solutions. It is risky I suppose, but there are no decent herp vets around (frankfort, ky) me that I know of. I've had two instances with tiger salamanders where I removed badly infected legs and some gills, isolated the animals, and changed their water daily...They recovered quite well, but I suppose it's ultimately a gamble.
Yes, it is. I am not sure, but I think salamanders deal with this better than any frog. Still I don't reccomend it.
