Hi there
A quick question.
Creating a new vivarium for my chubby frogs.
I'm thinking of getting a heat cable to put on the side of the tank.(Glass)
Im will use those premade background made of polystyrene. (I know, but i like the design)
Would the heat cable be able to heat through a background, if I place it behind this background or would the background absorb the heat?
Worry that I need to turn the heat cable up so I might damage/melt the background?
Anyone have experience with this?
Kind regards
Ricky
Those backgrounds are made of same material as disposable ice boxes so they will insulate instead of transmitting a heat source. Also, enough close heat will damage them.
An option would be to use the heat cable on a side pane keeping coils away from background .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
Another option I have seen work is to run the heat cord around the base of the tank (without touching the tank) and let the heat radiate through the glass and heat the area.
