    Default Tree frog Needs?

I am planning to get a frog but I do not know what kind, My store carries two species ... green tree frogs and pacman frogs. Very different species I know.

What are the essentials for a tree frog? I plan to make an elaborate set up later, I didnt see a care sheet and I really just need a list of essentials

Also whats it like owning a green tree frog?

I have two green tree frogs, both male. They are nocturnal, so don't expect them to be out during the daytime. The males do croak pretty loudly, but only about once or twice a day at most. They're pretty darn easy to care for compared to other frogs, and can do just as fine with plastic plants instead of real ones. If you want to keep it simple, just go with an 18x18x24 exo terra tank, a green cage carpet, a medium water bowl, a glass bowl for crickets, and lots of plastic plants.

For lighting, I would just get an exo terra hood and two compact fluorescent bulbs. I would recommend getting at least one branch/wood item from a pet store. Mopani, ghostwood (good luck finding that at a pet store), manzanita, and cork all work. Don't forget to get calcium powder w/D3 and multivitamin powder at the pet store too.

If you want to go with real plants, pothos and snake plants work awesome, and you can find both at hardware stores.

If you have any other questions, just ask.

May I ask why you need a bowl for crickets?

For a simple set up it sounds like until I can do something more fancy, a 10 gallon on its side, paper towels as substrate, sticks and plants, and a water bowl is all I need, I have calcium with d3 ... I will have to find the multivitamins.

Just a sidenote I do not handle amphibians, would this be a problem?

My neighbors had a wildcaught grey tree frog for aweek ... it didnt do much but I liked just watching it. If that helps at all.

A bowl keeps crickets contained and stops them from hiding somewhere in the tank and dying. Not everyone uses them, but they can be convenient.

Not handling amphibians is ideal, they are look but don't touch pets. However, you should learn to be comfortable doing it as the need may arise (moving to a new tank, or temporary tank to do a thorough clean of their permanent home, or into a 'hospital' tank if you suspect something is wrong, etc.).

"Green tree frog" can mean a few different species. In the North American pet trade, it's usually Litoria caerulea or Hyla cinerea (a US native). You should find out which your store has.

Most treefrogs spend the majority of their days just sitting there. They will actively go after food when you drop it in, or sometimes just wait till it gets close to pounce. Males will sometimes call in captivity. They may go for a wander at night time, to find some water to sit in or look for food, but the rule of thumb is usually sitting still.

Since it sounds like you have Gray Treefrogs near you, I'd suggest you take some time to find them in the wild and observe them a little more. Mostly you'll get to watch them just sitting there, but it's still pretty fun.
