Got 2 new little toadlets!(makes 3 in all)
Got 2 new little toadlets!(makes 3 in all)
Well i never thought i see a toadlet on my front porch since i'm a fair distance from the closest pond, but on Monday afternoon while coming back from a bike ride i found one. I all most ran over it thinking it was a rock at first. When i went to go pick it up it didnt try to hop away and it felt really dry(even for a toad) but once i got in the house it starting hopping like crazy. I put in with Salazar. Little cousin named it Mini since it's so small. Then yesterday morning well getting my bike out from the shed, i spotted another, this one i almost stepped on. This one is even smaller than Mini. I named it Golan. I put it in with Salazar and Mini. There's more than enough room, although Salazar is getting big fast and it lacks enough hides. I would post pics, but my camera broke and my phone's is really low end.

You are taking a risk by adding toadlets to an existing enclosure without proper quarantine. Also, if size difference is big, the little guys could become a meal
.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!

The size difference isn't too bad. Salazar is about a month old and Golan and Mini seem to be about 2 weeks old. What i meant was Salazar grew alot in the past 2 weeks, well more than i expected anyways. Also what is this about quarantining them?

Quarantining is when you put them in a monitoring tank. All new frogs/toads should be quarantined for at least 30 days.
QT serves two purposes. It allows you to monitor for any illnesses and it allows you to monitor how well they are eating and behaving.
QT will also save you much grief. If you happen to adopt sick animals, they can be treated in the quarantine tank, without contaminating a permanent home, such as a beautiful vivarium that you may have just spent lots of time and money building.
A QT tank is a minimal tank providing basic needs. Shelter (or something to hide under), food, water, proper temp and humidity and clean substrate (most often used is paper towels). It is a good idea to also cover the back and two sides of the tank to help them feel safe/secure. Placing a QT tank in a nice quiet, calm area is also recommended.
After 30-60 days, if they are healthy, eating well, popping well, nicely hydrated and show lack of stress, they may be moved into their future home.
It is also a good idea to have a fecal test done for parasites and eggs. Many parasites can be treated, but spreading them into the soil of a vivarium or to other frogs can be devastating and a mess to treat. Much easier to treat in a QT tank.
If frogs/toads are from an unknown origin, it is also a good idea to swab DNA test them for Chytrid and Ranavirus.
