Thread: Do you disinfect cork bark before using it with your frogs?

I ask because I have a massive load of bark to put into my tank and it would take a fair while to disinfect by boiling and baking, not to mention some pieces being fairly large. I have used a steam cleaner on them though am unsure of the effectiveness. The only thing visible on the bark are spiders and I'm sure they're no problem...It has just been sitting in a cardboard box after being bought from amazon (Prorep XL flat), I assume this has been sterilized before it's release for sale yes?
Part of me says this needs cleaned for the safety of my future frogs, and part of me says this is probably fine and doesn't need it at all as the worst place the bark has been is on my grass while it was cut into pieces.

Never assume anything is prepared for direct use. I would bake them before using them.

Fair enough. I'm assuming this is done when the bark is slightly wet to avoid it catching on fire yes?

I bake mine dry at 200F (93C) for one hour and then let it cool off slowly in oven overnight. Never had it catch fire; but recommend watch it first time around to ensure it's OK in your oven. Think a professional type steam cleaner would be OK on the larger pieces that can't be cut and won't fit inside the oven .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
