    Default Burying self...

My cobalt tinc has buried herself a bit into the back corner. It's kind of busy back there with the brom attached to the background, and a creeping vine coming in under that with a rock I propped up against the glass and another leafy thing.... basically it's a hidden spot. I almost panicked earlier when I couldn't find her, but if I look really closely I can just barely see some of her color showing through parts of the moss back there. I have leaf litter in there too, but in the corners especially it's hard to cover the moss because they are SO huge and my tank is pretty small. Anyway.... I just wondered if it was normal behavior to sort of bury themselves like that or if she was trying to fix and issue (reading through posts on here I only see it mentioned when someone's frog wasn't doing well).... like maybe too hot or cold or something. The temp did get pretty warm in here today and when I got home her tank temp was closer to 80 than usual. I turned the A/C on though and it's back down closer to 72. She doesn't seem real stressed or anything (just finished her rebuild yesterday and she moved in last night) and has been out and about plenty, eating, exploring etc.

    Alicia,

    Good Morning

They will do this and some more than others.
Be sure the humidity remains ok --- > mist a little more---- see if the hiding stops?

Maybe think about additional hiding places for the frog.
If they start to create their "own" spots you want to be sure the are safe!
Especially at night --- you don't want any thing to shift shift around.

Coconut huts are fun to 'rig'.
I buy fresh ones. ( I like them to look more natural ) You know, without the "perfect" little doorway cut into it.

    Buy a few

    It's a lot of work
Score ( I use a dremel ) a line along the seam ( it's typically along the longest -length- of the coconut )
Drill holes at apposite ends of each other along the score line
Let all the fluid drain out
Use a hammer and chisel ---> to break the coconut on the score-line.
Most of the time , they will break un-even creating a much more natural looking entry !

Leave the coconut meat inside the 1/2s
Bake them ( until the coconut meat turns light brown) it will sterilize the coconut and make it MUCH easier to remove it.
    1/2 hour - at least 250 degrees

When cooled the meat will come out under clod running water at the sink.

ALL the edges have to be sanded--- they are very sharp
I use the dremel for this as well. Warning --- this makes a HUGE mess -- you will want to take it outdoors.

I face the opening of the towards the back

PLUS when you are sure of what sex frog you have --- you could get HER(?) some company

They make a great 'spa' too !
If they should NOT hold water...place a small pc of saran under it !
    Works like a charm !

Thanks for the tips! She seems to have claimed that as her spot for the night, but she's out and about most of the day so I think she's not stressed or anything. Once the plants grow in more I imagine she'll hide more easily too. I couldn't fit anything else in there for hiding if I tried lol, which also means I won't be able to get her a friend unless someday I am able to upgrade the vivarium.
