I have an empty 40 gallon that I am thinking of putting some firebelly toads in. Now I want a naturalistic style cage. How often do you have to break down the tank and clean it? What about water changes?
Im a complete newb here so no absolutely nothing about water habitats.
Would I need a filter for the water like with fish?
what about a planted tank? How to keep plants alive(lighting?)
Sorry so many question but although I love the idea of having a living tank, with firebellys I have no idea what kind of work Im looking at with maintaining one. I picked firebellys because they seem active and relatively uncomplicated and hardy.
Thanks so much

.

. False bottom mentioned before is what will allow having a dry area over a water one. Another option would be to create a "dam" by gluing a piece of glass to enclosures inside; but if it leaks (and many do) you have a problem with waterlogged substrate on dry section.
