Thread: Lengthy decor

    Default Lengthy decor

Hello FF! On my last thread, i was told to add some more decor to the top of my enclosure to use as much vertical space as possible! I have one whites tree frog who is about 2 1/2 years old in a Zoo med 12x12x18, he seems to be doing perfect at the moment in this tank. Recently i purchased a log to put on the wall, only to notice when i got home it is just over 13 in long. I really love the shape, ect. Any ideas on how i could cut this log to be safe for Mr.Jelly AND most importantly so it would fit in the cage haha? Also, the log is suction cup so are there any ways to make sure the suction cup never falls/comes loose? Any ideas on where to put the log in terrarium would be helpful too! Thanks again!

What is the log made out of? real wood? If so just use a saw and cut the tip of the brand down till it is the length you need to put into the tank.

How are the suction cups attached now? Picture of that?

could it be put in at an angle somehow? I have the same tank, and my husband almost grabbed that log for decor for me... I am glad he didn't if it's too long!

I could put it at an angle but i would much rather not! I doubt it is real wood, it doesn't say on the packaging but it is like the fake wood stuff you buy at pet stores for fish, reptile, ect. ( sorry i'm horrible at describing ) here is the suction cups!

It is my very deep understanding such a small tank for adult whites is a prison cell.... Just saying you gotta go for 18x18x24.

yeah! I know most people say that a larger cage is better for whites. To me though, mr.j seems to be doing well in the cage he has! He has a daily routine, sleep in the log, comes out around 9:30 and waits for cricket on rock! The reason i am getting more decor is too try to maximize the vertical space so he can climb more! I'd really love to get the 18x18x24 but my parents can't buy it for me and i just got a custom shelf for a 12x12x18!

    A) it's plastic, you can use a hacksaw to cut it

    B) super glue will hold the suction cups to the glass much longer than silicone will

    C) while an 18x18x24 would be better for a white's, a 12x12x18 would suffice as long as you do not add any background to the tank. If you do the "builder's math" an 18x18 with foam background added comes out to be about 12x12 interior space (assuming roughly 3" of foam on each side, which would be average). It's what I like to call usable volume, and what a lot of people tend to forget about.

Compared to millions of hectares of rainforest to roam in, ANY enclosure we keep them in is a prison cell
