This is terrible Grif, are you sure though it was bacteria? Did they do cytology and culture?

And i cant see the pics
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Something happened when we uploaded them. When we get some time we will fix them.

They did a cytology report. My vet said he isn't going to waste his time with that lab anymore. Will find another. It was bacteria for sure. The problem with bacteria is that it can mutate and become immune to antibiotics. This was a very strong bacteria. Antibiotics would work for a couple weeks and then the frogs would crash and the meds no longer were effective.

This should have been very frustrating for you all. But you said not everybody got infected?

Just a few. Could not pinpoint the source. Even had checks for Ranavirus and chytrid. Both negative. Most likely those with stronger immune systems could combat whatever it was and those that couldn't recieved damaged kidneys and renal failure. I know A lot of bacteria have very similar symptoms as well which also makes it hard to pinpoint the species of bacteria. Aneramonas hydrophilia which causes Red Leg has many similar symptons, but the red ness on those of mine that died was from the phosphorous build up in the blood. Once they passed the redness vanished. It also seemed to affect the adults differently. Babies had dematosepsis that was highly visible, not so much on the adults.

I realized I forgot to go back and fix these pictures! They should show up now. Here are some more recent pictures of these babies as well.

Peppermint has cute little white horns.

The mutant is just as weird as ever. He ranges from pinkish/clear to yellow. His legs are always clear and you can see the cartilage and muscles!

In the last two pictures, you can see something white on the left side of the belly. That is the stomach. It is most visible right after he eats.

I thought the mutants themselves would be affected by their mutation, my thought was that because
a mutation is a loss of information that the frog may have had some sort of disadvantage.

Mutations are not just a loss of information. Some are a gain of information and others are information rearranged in such a way that new traits appear. Of course there can always be adverse affects that follow a mutation. I have no way of knowing what other genetic abnormalities he posesses except what I can see.

His disadvantage is that he can never blend with his environment just like albinos can't. He will also be more sensitive to light than normals and even more so than albinos. Light will be able to pass right through his skin.

Those frogs are so cute! I see Mike's frogs on facebook all the time. I've always wondered though, how do you get them, does he just ship them to you?

He ships them overnight. They arrive at your home at about 10:30 am.
