Need Help!!!!!!

I have found a and saved over 300 tadpoles and don't know what to do. I have them in a fish tank for now but plan to move them to a kiddie pool as soon as I see that they are big enough. I do know they are gray tree frogs. True gray not the green and gray. They were in my swimming pool and so was the mommy frog. That is the only way I know what they are. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should feed them and how to take care of them. The 300 is a guesstimate because there were eggs that I also saved and hatched. Please if anyone has any idea on what to do let me know because I am planing to raise them and hopefully breed them.

300 is quite a few to try to raise up, particularly if you have no experience with it. Check out the gray tree frog care article on this site as it covers rearing tads and should answer most of your questions.

I know 300 is a lot but I am an animal lover and I will save as many as I can. Happily. I think frogs are the most under rated animals on earth. They are cute and they help the earth. And the best part of them is that they kill mosquitoes and the larva.

To raise them you will need fish flakes, water conditioner (as you will need to change the water regularly) tadpoles can also eat blanched lettuce. I just freeze it and grate it into their water. Feed them little but often. I suggest having several tanks so you have a better chance of keeping them clean and healthy. Put rocks in the bottom as they eat the algae that forms. Oxygen Weed is also good for them to nibble at. You must be aware of temperature as well. If you plan on putting them outside then you should keep them outside. You should research as much as you can as Seth said read the Gray tree frog care article but also feel free to ask questions here because there are plenty of members who have raised tadpoles. Ive not raised Gray Tree frog tadpoles but I raised hundreds of Tree frog Tadpoles and can do my best to help. Good luck

Wow, that's quite a find you have there. I have a gray tree frog that has been coming on my deck for the past 3 weeks. I catch and release him in different areas, yet he still returns to my deck to sun tan. So I took him in. Lol.

To be honest, trying to raise that many when you're new to rearing tads increases the odds that they'll get sick. Because of this it really would be better for the frogs if you did not raise them all. Since they are a local species, why not try to find a suitable breeding ground (other than your swimming pool) to return most of the viable eggs (and mom) to, and then keep a few eggs to try to raise?

Don't worry. If the eggs are viable, they'll take care of themselves if you put them in a proper breeding spot (where they should have been laid in the first place.)

jclee...That's Something I have often wondered. Chlorine doesn't seem to effect frogs. Ive heard many cases where frogs breed in swimming pools successfully that contain chlorine.


pudly.. If you do end up releasing them somewhere else then I strongly suggest that it's within you area or you may have to check first with the proper authorities first.
