I've had Keropi for about 4 or so months, with him being about 2-3 inches, but out of curiosity. I don't ever recall reading what people feed their Pacmans when they get bigger. Under my ownership I've just fed him Nightcrawlers that have been reasonable sizable for a meal, but as I progress to four+ fat/longish nightcrawlers every other day, will this number just keep increasing by the time I get to a year? I know people feed their Pac'ys Pinkies and such once a month but I don't know how I feel about feeding those to him.
In the time that I've had him, I quickly adapted him to nightcrawlers and as the weeks went by, went from half a nightcrawler, to two whole night crawlers, to three, and now even four if he looks like he can handle it.
I'm just curious is all. I had been breeding a nightcrawler worm farm at one point but the bed turned sour and I decided to pitch it (also didn't help much that I decided to use the smaller of worms from my purchases from Walmart while using the fatter ones as meals for Keropi; wasn't much to the farm to begin with.)
So ideally, my question is: what would satisfy him for a "meal" in terms of proportions versus his size. Or will I inevitably one day have to feed him with ten+ worms in one feeding.
They can be fed on staple of nightcrawlers all their life, however variety is a key here, that is why it is advisable to feed other foods once in a while. Pinky ( can be F/T) once a month, hormworms, dubia, etc.
keep in mind they slow down eating as they mature, some may eat 1-2 times a week 2-3 big nightcrawlers or less.
For example my 5,5" ornata male would eat 1-2- 3 worms a week
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
As Lija stated; they slow down their food intake once mature and almost full grown. An interesting feeding method is by making your own "frog sausages" with commercially available food casings. Search forum for "sausages" and a couple threads should pop up for you. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
Ah that looks like the answer to my question right there.
I thought it was silly to think that I would have to feed him a absurdly gross amount of worms when he got bigger. Haha, I would assume the process of slowing down their food intake is a result of being at their peak fitness, no longer needing the nutrients from their food as their growth declines."They slow down their food intake once mature and almost full grown."
As for the sausage casing I would imagine my frog would need to be thoroughly tong trained in order to get him to consume it, or try to get a long sausage chain and trail it around in front of him? :P Sounds like a fun idea.
