I think that buying a Horned Frog for anyone under 13 years old is a big mistake. They don't really do a lot of moving around. They are night creature, like vampires.
I think buying any pet for anyone under age of 18 is risky and that pet is going to be parents responsibility. I can buy a frog to my 9y old no problem and she will be just fine taking care of it, she wanted tarantula, she got one, however if it is my as parent responsibility to ensure she takes proper care of it.
So for any parent considering buying any pet to their kids ( age doesnt matter) - make sure you and your kid understand responsibility you are taking, you are not buying a toy, but live creature and as such you are responsible for its wellbeing, including vet bills if such need occurs. If it dies due to neglect i will never blame a kid, but i will their parents.
having said that there are kids under age of 13 perfectly capable to take excellent care of pacman frog, but there are adults 20+ who should never be allowed to have any pet, pacman frog included.
im pretty sure we have 13 y olds on this forum who can teach a lot way older people.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
I think the most important thing when buying an animal is to research extensively before you buy. I must have read every care sheet in the world before i got my White's. Obviously, extremely young children are most likely not ready for a pet. I'm 14(a little above the age being discussed. But i was 13 when i got my frogs.) and i would definitely not say that i am a frog expert but i know one or two things
. Being informed and prepared are the best ways to have a healthy happy pet, no matter your age
. But i might be biased on this one, considering I'm a kid

I agree 100%!! When my son (he is 12 almost 13) asked for frogs we talked about it and the responsibility of it for a couple months. He gets an allowance of which he has some spending money to play with. He had saved up enough money to do a small tank and get a couple Darts. Once I felt he understood what he was getting into he spent some of his money to help get the frogs and the tank setup. He makes Fruit Fly cultures with me each week. He is doing absolutely fantastic with them, but I did and still do make sure he is doing all he needs to do to take care of them.
He is now asking if he can create an account on the frog forum so he can read more about frogs and tanks lol. I think I created a monsterMy 11 yr Old daughter is now talking about getting frogs (she currently has a fish tank she is caring for. She does the water changes weekly, feeds them, and regularly tests the water
