Default Any help on reviving a Fittonia

    Hello,

I found this wonderful tropical collection at the grocery store of some plants I was having trouble finding online. Everything was terrarium friendly and in sizes that are bigger than a 1-2 inch pot. I sectioned this piece off by splitting a small part off at the root. I have had a lot of success with splitting up sections this way, but this is my first Fittonia. It has laid over but not in a wilted or dead way. New very small leaves are still forming. It has been 6 days and it just won't stiffen up. This is my favorite and I can't find it anywhere, so I really don't want to loose it. Any suggestions? The other half of the plant is perfect still. I have pulled sections from two other plants and they are happy and healthy. It's called a red vein or red anne fittonia by exotic angel plants, and they only sell commercially.

    Thanks

That's an odd one. What kind of light is it getting? Watering routine?

I put the pot in my terrarium an I am maintaining 78-80 degrees and I am shooting for 70% humidity. It's misted 3x a day and the soil is kept moist, but not soggy. They are getting Reptsun 5.0 tropical and a 13W led for about 10-12 hours. I don't have frogs in my terrarium yet they are newly morphed into froglets and not ready. I did not plant it in the terrarium yet because I wanted to see it adapt first.

What color temps are the led. I couldn't find anything on zoomed's website about the reptisun except that it provided "daylight"

Sorry for the confusion, the LED is from DFC. It has 66% White, 17% Blue and 17% Red LED combination, they produce a wide spectrum of light from red to blue. Resulting in a 6,000K~6,500K light source to increase plant growth. They are perfect for any animals or plants that are heat sensitive. Plus the Reptsun 5.0 tropical (providing UVA & UVB). It's over a screen, so some of the UVB should get thru, shouldn't it? I know UVB doesn't go thru glass.

It is day 8 and still in the same laying down position. Leaves are still sprouting at the ends, but it's not stiffening up. I'm afraid to plant it directly in the tank until I know it will make it. It's planted in Neherp AGB mix. Is there maybe something I can add if I don't plant it right away and pull it out of my tank? Some kind of fertilizer that I would never add to the terrarium?

As long as it is showing signs of new growth, I would plant it.

Plants don't need uv lighting, so the reptisun isn't doing anything for the plant.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It finally came back. I need to work on the patience part of plants. I don't know how people do cuttings. They take forever to show progress. I am working on my inner Zen.

Oh, I forgot to ask. What would you recommend for light in an 18x18x24 for p. Terribillis and plants. I have a hood that I can put in two bulbs. I have: 13w LED 66% white, 17% red, 17% blue, 6000~6500k. Exo Terra 13w reptile vision, Exo Terra 5.0 13w Reptsun. What would you recommend in any combination or is there something else better? I don't need the heat right now, my house low is 77 this time of year. What will make both the frogs and the plants happy? I know I will have to change up when it gets colder, I will want something that puts out more heat.

Well, you can dump the reptisun neither the frogs nor the plants require uv light. I would double up the LEDs. you really only need the light for the plants. The frogs could care less what kind of light they have. They just care about having a photo cycle.

No problem. Plants do require a lot of patience. I found that raising 3 kids did a lot to build up my patience lol
