I'm trying to figure out what the best thing to do for my White's Tree Frogs' water dish is. I know that distilled / reverse osmosis water is the best to use for misting, but I've also been using it for the water dish because it was convenient for me. Is this bad? I've read several conflicting opinions, some say that distilled / r/o is good for frogs because it's basically pure water and doesn't contain any chlorides/chloramines/heavy metals/ other nasty stuff. But then other people say that distilled / r/o is bad because it doesn't have any minerals and can cause TOXIC SHOCK? Please help, I've had my frog for about 2 weeks and I am SO afraid of him dying. He seems perfectly healthy, but I read this thread and now I'm scared. I love my frog so much, It would be the worst thing to die suddenly just because I used improper water.
If just using tap water with a dechlorinating product is the best thing to do, I can't get one right now. Tomorrow when I go out and look for one, what should I look for?? I didn't get one originally because I couldn't find any that didn't have "slime coat" for fish. A lot of people have recommended Seachem Prime, but it says right there in the product description that it provides slime coat. What can I get?? There's so much conflicting information out there and I'm very confused and scared for the health of my frog.
