.....and you'll be, in a world of pure imagination........ i have had this idea for this tank for a few months now. and i promised myself i wasn't going to start a new build for a while, but........all the great builds i have been seeing, and the new ones getting underway have really inspired me to go for it. i'm really into theme tanks right now. it's my phase, i guess. and i thought it would be really cool to do a Willy Wonka Tank. Old School Willy Wonka. not the creepy, tim burton, michael jacksonish, johnny depp version. although, i really did toy with that version for a while. awesome visuals that would work in a tank. but i decided on the one that truly inspired this tank, the chocolate room in the original. this should be a fun build, you might wanna hang around for this one


oh, and the details on the tank are: 60G (roughly) 36x18x24 aquarium. it will have t5ho lighting. maybe i'll spring for an led or two along the way, you never know. inhabitants i am not entirely sure of yet. i have to really think about this, in part because i'm not entirely sure about some compatibility issues with some of the plants i selected. it may end up just being a terrarium for all i know at this point. but i do know i'm going to start gathering materials this weekend.

Thanks guys. I never sketched this one out, so I am going to be building on the fly. and yes Paul, I have plans for Augustus and the intake tube. Gotta do some experimenting first. The background should go fairly quick as well as the floor plan. I'm just doing a basic drainage layer. Going to pick up a 50lb bag of hydroton over the weekend. and a few styrofoam sheets. I may even add some cork in there somewhere (gasp!)

The lickable wall paper wasn't in the chocolate room!!! But I have considered adding it in. That may actually be a cool background/side wall idea.

I was thinking that I might have some scrapbook paper that would work for it...then I figured you could probably find something online that is pretty much identical to it. I love how they say they used it in the description! Makes me want a Willy Wonka themed birthday party for my kids LOL

Depends on the plant. The only ones I am a bit concerned with are sundews (drosera species). I'm still at odds on that one. Only because of their dew. I have grown drosera within tells though with no issue.

Ive contemplated on using carnivorous plants in vivs for future projects. I would be worried about missing my frogs later seeing big bulges in the plants

Lol i liked that as well! that was an excellent idea. I could just spray glue the images to a sheet of styro and either laminate them or clear coat them. The design has just changed several times in my head. Lol

Haha! No worries there. I know a lot of people think something like a nepenthes pitcher is going to eat their frogs, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. I have actually seen darts take up residence in some pitchers in vivs. As far as them laying eggs in one, that could potentially be an issue, but I don't breed any of my frogs. I just don't have any interest in it, so I am not truly concerned about that part.
