Awesome!!! It's all about going slow and only using the weight of the drill for pressure. Oh, and keeping the bit wet and cool. Easy peasey!!!

Easy Peasey!? Yeah It is once you figure it out lol. My issue with the breaking was self inflicted. The bit I bought had a bit in the middle of the hole saw so the bit didn't walk around while it was getting the grove going. Turns out you have to remove that after the initial grove is cut or it puts to much pressure on the glass and cracks it. Oh well Least i had the forethought to test it on a 10gallon tank first...

you can avoid having the center bit in it if you hold the bit at an angle while starting the hole. tilt down slowly after the groove starts to continue and complete the groove, then it's away you go

The egg crate is actually a Light Luvar. It is at big box hardware stores back by the Drop Ceiling supplies. It is also called a light defuser.

Here is the hole i drilled. I measured it and placed it below the egg crate, but above my waterline by 1.5 inches I will run my aquatic heater power cord out this and the airline for my water filter.

and here is the back of the tank foamed up. The ledge is in place and the front edge is foamed as well. Once this cures I will do one of the sides and then repeat till all the foam is done.

yeah i was nervous, thats why I destroyed a 10 gallon to get the hang of doing it before I tried it on the 40B. It is actually very easy, just takes a bit of practice. I now feel like I could drill future tanks to install a drain bulkhead. Learn something new everyday

My only criticism so far: I would have tested whether or not the tank holds water for an extended period of time before I started the background. It's gonna suck of you have to rip stuff apart to fix things.

Bill, I am stopping the spray foam well above the water line. Once the spray foam is setup and curing the rest of the way I am going to stand it back in place and fill the tank with water unto the max level it will be allowed to go and let it sit for 48 hours to test for leaks. If there is a leak the only part that will need to be fixed is the bottom 7 inches of the tank. I had considered doing the water test first, but ultimately decided that the foam will be out of the way and will allow me to let the foam cure and test for a water leak at the same time.

I agree though that water testing is a vital part to the build and would be disastrous if the false bottom and soil were in place and then a leak was found. I will be filling it with water tonight or tomorrow...depending on how firm the foam gets before bed time tonight, don't want the foam to run down the wall

Gotcha. See, I'm a lot more patient of a person LOL actually, I tend to be methodical. The conversion would be the first thing. When I was satisfied with it, then I would move on. But like I always preach, there's more than one way to do everything

Absolutely. I struggle with patience for sure lol. So to counter that in my builds I try to plan everything out. Unfortunately with this being a tank conversion (my first). I didn't plan on the conversion first which was an over site on my part. Luckily I decided to not dump spray foam and such into the tank until I had the door on and everything done. I am still not 100% sure the conversion is a success. Everything is working great now, but its the long term of the epoxy and everything I am looking at. I can't think of a different way to do the door for this. Doing a split door seems like it would be hard to get everything to line up good. We will see I suppose lol.

The 18x18x24 QT tank is all setup and ready for the frogs arrival on Tuesday! I am very excited to finally get a bold species of frogs I love my Mantellas and Vents, but It will be nice to have some that don't care I am observing them

Hind sight being what it is I have decided to limit the videos to around 3 - 5 mins and have each video focus on a specific feature or aspect of the build.

Please let me know what you think. I would like to continue to do build journals and video build journals, but would also like to hear everyones opinion so I can make it as entertaining, informative, and enjoyable as possible.

    Paul,
I'm sorry ...if I missed it
What species are you getting for this 40B ?.... is it still going to be citronellas?
I though somewhere along the line you changed your mind about getting them?

    The bi-level idea is great!

Someday , ( hopefully many years from now) I will be converting my 36H exos for PDFs
I have a billion ideas 'banging around' my head.
    -a rock drip wall
-a complete -plant fiber pocket -background
-folios type background material-- rolled/siliconed shaped into vines and narrow pcs cut into tree branch shapes/siliconed
    3d style near the background
-and an area of soil /planted ....1/2 way up
I'm practicing w/ some supplies Ha! I may be 80 by then though

    Great videos... nice change !
Can you pls sent me a little PM when part 3 is up and running

    Thanks

Absolutely Lynn. I am editing the video down a lot right now. Trying to keep the next video under 5 mins.

Any criticism or advice for the videos? I'd like to do them with each build... Need to get a tripod lol. I am def looking for opinions on what people like about them and what people dislike so I can tweak them as I go to be better

Broke part of this build off as a "How to Guide" and posted it on the forums. In the linked post is a step by step guide with pictures and a video guide.
