Found an amphibian in the pool filter at work. (work at a vet in dog daycare and was swimming dogs at the time). Thought it would be interesting to keep it as a pet and set up a habitat for it with my kids to enjoy and learn about it. Told it was a bullfrog, but it doesn't look anything like one of those to me! I thought it to be some manner of toad. It's about the size of my palm. Upon research on google, I think it is a Woodhouse toad. Could you let me know if this is correct? And if it can be properly cared for indoors as a pet, how do my kids and I set up a habitat for it? Thank you. For now, we have it in a plastic container with some rocks on one half of the bottom for it to relax on and a couple inches of water on the other half to wade in. This is only temporary while we set up something much more suitable.

Welcome to the forum! We have a good care sheet on FF for toads; Frog Forum - Toad Basics - Keeping ground-dwelling Toads. A care sheet for Bufo, Anaxyrus, Spea, Scaphiopus, Ollotis, Alytes, Pelobates The basic set up would be a 10 gallon tank with coconut fiber bedding with a few hides, plastic plants and a water dish with dechlorinated water tap water has harmful chemicals that will hurt or maybe kill the toad, keep her in these conditions and she will thrive!

Thank you I found the care sheet very helpful, and will be collecting supplies today to make her at home. I am wondering if feeding her earwigs is ok? We have quite a few of them in and around the house. Would prefer to not have to feed crickets as their smell and noise disturb us so, but will if necessary..

Welcome to the forum! You can dig up worms outside in an area you're sure is free of pesticides and fertilizers, she'd enjoy a nice fat night crawler. You can pick them up from a bait shop also, so long as they are not dyed. You can also buy smaller crickets. I will only buy crickets that aren't big enough to start chirping. Make sure you're dusting with vitamins and calcium

Amy has you covered for feeding I wouldn't feed earwigs because of the possibility of them pinching the toad and they probably aren't very nutritious by themselves. Worms that are collected from a pesticide free location or non dyed and crickets are in my opinion your best option.

Hello and welcome to FF! Best food for toad are night crawlers. Insects should be sized same as distance between toads eyes or smaller. If feeding crickets, gut load them for 24-48 hours with lettuce, carrots, and cherios cereal. You need to supplement it's diet, more info on that in here: http://www.frogforum.net/food-feeder...schedules.html. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
