Default trying to breed whites tree frogs!!!

    Hi all,

So I attempted to breed my male and female whites this week, but eventhough there was a lot of croaking and the male was latched onto the femalesback for some time, no spawn L
I have been advised to feed the female up and dry out theviv for another couple of weeks or so and try my best to add more males.
Thing is due to the mating season etc both my whites are offtheir food a bit, same thing happened last year. But female is very plump.
I think I will be needing one to two more male whites.Had this been the case this time, I reckon I wudavdeffo had spawn.
I had lots of positive signs even though I didn’t hibernatethem.Any advise??Any1 know where I can get an adult male whitesin london?

White's don't hibernate. But in order to breed them, they need to be cycled through seasonal change. They need to go through a dry season and then need to be placed in a rain chamber to simulate the rainy season, which forces them to breed.

Bill, how sure are you that whites don't hibernate? My whites seem to hibernate every year. During the colder winter months they will hide away (or sometimes burrow under decor).

Ya know what? It's probably a possibility. They are a tropical frog, but I would guess they would have hibernation (aestivation?) inherent in their DNA. I'll have to ask a buddy of mine who breeds them.

you dont need to aestivate whites, but you do need to cycle them and by any means one male and one female is not enough! You gotta go for 10 frogs at least, but bare minimum - 4:2.

Are you sure you really want to breed them? Like really sure? And deal with bunch of eggs/ babies/ big tanks/ working for them like no tomorrow/ dealing with distribution/ possibly having hundreds of baby whites that are gonna eat you out if the house?
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Lija, the question wasn't whether you need to aestivate to breed. Then secondary question was whether or not white's actually do. Aestivate that is.

I would love to breed whites some day. I've tried it a few years ago and was unsuccessful with 1 male.

Our breeder uses a group of 1 female and 3 males and a rain chamber.

to be honest, I just think the female needs to be a bit fatter and I need 1 or 2 more males to stimulate her. But all in all it was a good first try, lots of very positive signs. Going to dry them out for a couple of weeks etc, and add a couple more males. @ lija, I see it as a fun project, not work .

thanks all for the responses! keep them coming
