Hey, this is my first post here! Today at my detasseling job, I came across a little toad. I decided to smuggle him home in my lunch bag, because he could have gotten killed by the pesticides from the crop duster, and if that didn't directly kill him, he would probably have starved from the insects being killed. Also, yesterday someone caught a similar sized toad and tortured it with his friends and eventually threw it outside the bus to watch it hop frantically away across the road into the next field. I also heard them talking about drowning the next one they would find. Oh, and the carrier machines would have eventually run through and squashed him. When I put him in the critter keeper when I got home, he was very frightened, but he eventually called down and soaked in his water bowl (which I made sure to dechlorinate). All sources say the only toad species in Nebraska is the Great Plains Toad, but to me he doesn't look like a Great Plains Toad. So could anyone help identify him (or her)? I don't know if it's a male or a female because it's a juvenile. Do the juvenile males squeak too? Thank you to anyone who answers my question.
Here's a picture:You can't really tell in the picture, but he doesn't have the white splotches that are on Great Plains Toads.
